Mike was part of all three expeditions, A 19 year old engineering student from London.
IAN CURRIE 1938-2013
Ian had recently finished his engineering course and was working for CJB on civil engineering projects.
NICHOLAS WARWICK-JAMES
Known as Warwick, The only member of the crew to have a proper job with career prospects.
HELGA SEUFERT
One of the first world travellers, From Munich, Helga heard about the proposed trip and was determined to be part of the team. Left in Malaysia to continue travelling.
CAROL AND KAY – THE HITCHHIKERS
Carol and Kay were having issues crossing the Syrian frontier after hitchhiking from Rome. There were two spare seats in the Land Rovers so they joined the expedition aiming to catch a ship from Beirut, there wasn’t one, so they travelled with us to Bombay.
SIMON THORNYCROFT 1944-1965
Simon organised his own overland trip to Melbourne, where he and Mike met. They organised the Birdsville trip in 1964. Tragically Simon lost his life in an accident in Melbourne in 1965
THE TWINS
Jane and Brigit, friends of Simon, were living in Sydney and heard about the proposed outback trip and announced to him and Mike that they were coming too.
ROBERT SESSIONS
Bob was another Overlander, he and Mike met in Melbourne in 1965 and planned a return journey to England via India, when the Indo/Pakistan war broke out, plans had to be changed a couple of weeks before departure.
