This site tells the story of three overland expeditions undertaken by Mike Wykeham and his friends in the 60’s.

I am Mikes son, Ben, and have seen the photos taken on these trips projected onto many walls on various occasions and love hearing the story. Little did I know that there was so much I had never heard.

Both Mike and I have tried to track down the Series II 88 Land Rover used by Mike for the expeditions he undertook but we know nothing of its whereabouts after it was sold to Nottingham University in 1968-69 for use in a potential expedition to India. I started emailing various people including the University, H R Owen where the vehicle was purchased and a few Land Rover enthusiast websites and groups. If was on one Facebook group I was recommended to talk to Classic Landrover.

A number of emails flew back and forth between myself and the editorial assistant Vicky who offered to print my request for information on 714 FXO. This went into the August 2017 issue but sadly even with all the effort everyone has put into this, nothing has come of this search to date.
It was during these emails that Vicky asked if Mike had ever put pen to paper and shared the story with anyone outside the family, if so she would create a proper article for print. Mike had spoken to me a few times about the story but had never written any of it down. During my next visit to see him Vicky and I arranged an interview where we arranged for an article to be published. This developed into a three issue story, these are all available in the October, November and December issues and are the inspiration for this site.

I am forever in awe of Mike, his friends and the stories he tells. I hope everyone who visits enjoys them as much as I and perhaps this can inspire you to share stories you have or get in touch with your parents to discover what stories they have.
